From a Love of Garden Birds to The Wildlife Food Company

We have always been passionate wildlife lovers, and for many years feeding birds in our back garden was simply part of everyday life. Watching robins, blackbirds, tits, and many other birds visiting our feeders brought constant enjoyment and a deeper appreciation for the role garden feeding plays in supporting Britain’s wildlife. What began as a simple love of feeding garden birds gradually became a genuine commitment to helping nature thrive in the places closest to home.
Nest boxes began to appear, garden ponds were created and uncut areas left for wildlife. In a nation where wildlife habitat is in fast decline, we joined the growing masses of nature lovers who are doing their bit to create a place for birds and bugs in their back gardens.
When we later moved to the Lake District, we experienced something truly special — the privilege of having native red squirrels visiting our back garden. Seeing these rare and beautiful animals up close was both humbling and inspiring. It reinforced how important supplementary feeding and habitat support can be for vulnerable native species, and deepened our connection to wildlife conservation in the UK.
Around this time, a new business opportunity presented itself that opened our eyes to the possibility of doing more. We realised we could combine our lifelong love of wildlife with a practical way to help others support nature in their own gardens and local spaces. From that idea, The Wildlife Food Company was born.
Our mission is simple: to help people across the UK feed and care for wildlife in their back gardens, woodlands, and local landscapes. By providing responsibly sourced bird seed, red squirrel food, and wildlife products in plastic-free packaging, we aim to make wildlife feeding both sustainable and accessible. We also believe that everyday connections with nature — watching birds at a feeder or red squirrels in a garden — are powerful in inspiring the next generation of nature lovers.
Beyond feeding wildlife, we are committed to supporting conservation charities and organisations working to protect Britain’s native species and habitats. Every choice we make as a business is guided by the belief that small, positive actions taken by many people can make a real difference for wildlife.
The Wildlife Food Company grew from our own back garden experiences, and it continues to be inspired by the wildlife we are lucky enough to share our home with in the Lake District. Our hope is that through sustainable wildlife feeding and shared knowledge, more people can experience that same connection to nature — right outside their own door.
So who are we? We are Mark and Kristin Williamson and we run the Wildlife Food Company.
